The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma
In 2011, Khyentse Foundation supported the Root Text Project of the Chogyam Trungpa Legacy Project. The funding supported the final edits of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma for publication.
The editorial team writes, “We see [The Profound Treasury] as the chief scholarly reference for Trungpa Rinpoche’s teachings. These books will be the first public exposition of the Vidyadhara’s systematic teachings on the Buddhist path from beginning to end.”
The text is a three-volume, in-depth exploration of the nine yanas, based on transcripts of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s Vajradhatu Seminary teachings to senior students from 1973 to 1986. This is the one remaining publishing project initiated directly by the Vidyadhara, and it represents a systematic and penetrating presentation informed by both scholarship and meditative practice. Acharya Emeritus Judith Lief, assisted by Ellen Kearney, is the editor. Carolyn Gimian joined the editorial team for the Vajrayana volume, and the Nalanda Translation Committee, Derek Kolleeny in particular, has also been extensively involved. The final draft of the third volume is in review, and the entire set is scheduled for publication by Shambhala in the fall of 2012.
The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma will include forewords by HH the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, HE Rabjam Rinpoche, HE Thrangu Rinpoche, Ven. Tulku Thondup, and Diana J. Mukpo, along with material from Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
Publication will be the culmination of more than 30 years of work and the fulfillment of the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s request. Carolyn Gimian wrote to KF, “In the 25th year since his Parinirvana, this will be something to truly celebrate.”
