The Formation of the Tibetan Buddhist Canon and its Textual Value
Lecture in Chinese)
As a collection of massive Buddhist scriptures, the Tibetan Buddhist canon is one of the fundamental sources for Buddhist studies. However, the Tibetan Buddhist canon attracted less attention from Buddhist scholars in the past than the Sanskrit-Pāli literature and the Chinese Buddhist canon. This lecture aims at introducing the textual value of the Tibetan canon in the studies of Buddhist literature. It investigates the history of the Tibetan canon’s translation and formation from both diachronic and synchronic points of view. The main points covered by this lecture are: 1. The value of the catalogues and the Dunhuang manuscripts produced during the Tibetan empire; 2. Comparative studies of Buddhist texts in the context of Sino-Tibetan Buddhist exchange; 3. Preliminary studies of the genealogy of the Tibetan canon: manuscripts and woodblock printing; 4. Future studies.

The Goodman Lectures
A series of online lectures by leading Buddhist studies scholars
The Goodman Lectures are organized in honor of long-time Khyentse Foundation friend and advisor Professor Steven D. Goodman (1945–2020), whose enduring vision to make academic talks available to people beyond the classroom inspired KF and our friends in academia to share their knowledge and insight with a more general audience.
