Simmy Makhijani

Simmy Makhijani is a Bay Area academic and activist focusing on the intersections of art, radical histories, youth organizing, and solidarity movements. A lecturer in Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University, she co-founded and co-ran United Roots, a green youth arts and media community center in Oakland, and has been involved with Asians 4 Black Lives, Narika, Asian Women’s Shelter, Alliance of South Asians Taking Action, South Asian Women’s Creative Collective-SF, Art in Action and the American Musical Heritage Foundation. Simmy holds a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology and a Masters in Asian and Comparative Studies.
