Khyentse Foundation supports academic development activities in Buddhism around the world. The next such event, cosponsored by KF through the Ratnākara grant, is “Buddhist Texts in Sanskrit: Intensive Readings at Mahidol University” in Bangkok, February 12 through 25, 2015. A one-day conference with Prof. Peter Skilling (EFEO, Bangkok/Paris) on February 20 will be a highlight of the proceedings. Some of the other participants include Prof. Harunaga Isaacson (University of Hamburg), Prof. Francesco Sferra (University of Naples “L’Orientale”), and Dr. Kengo Harimoto (University of Hamburg).

Conference topics include Kāvya, represented by selections from the Jātakamālā of Āryaśūra and the Avadānakalpalatā of Kṣemendra, two beautiful poems about the previous lives of the Buddha; Tantric Commentaries, a selection from Ratnākaraśānti’s writings, with a focus on the philosophical sections expounding the Yogācāra view; and the Abhidharmasamuccayakārikā of Saṃghatrāta, an unpublished Sāmmitīya work of great philosophical and historical importance.

All events will take place at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, Nakhon Pathom, Bangkok. For more details, contact Mattia Salvini at prasajya[at]gmail.com.
