To start the Year of Dragon, we are excited to share a new area of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s favorite things—photography.

“Raghu Rai, … I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago. Indian. Fantastic photographer. You should really look at his photos. Like this one, for instance, it’s just so special. … It’s like there’s so many stories. But I think there’s one that is my favorite, and that’s like, it’s the most special … the tree, the lady, the Kali, the river, the boat, the cow—India in a nutshell. This is like, if you want to know about India, you can get quite a big picture of India just looking at this photo.”

Raghu Rai (b. 1942) is an Indian photographer and photojournalist. He was a protégé of Henri Cartier-Bresson, who nominated Rai, then a young photojournalist, to join Magnum Photos in 1977. Rai became a photographer in the mid-1960s, soon joining the staff of The Statesman in New Delhi. (Source: Wikipedia)
