Legacy Giving

From encountering the wisdom of the Buddha, and from our own study and practice, we know the truth of impermanence. Although it may be difficult to contemplate this truth every day, we know that at some point our time will end. It is up to each of us to consider what we will be leaving behind and what we feel to be important.

Setting out to create a will may seem daunting, but you will be reassured knowing that your wishes are fulfilled and your loved ones taken care of. There are many issues to explore when leaving a gift to loved ones or including a nonprofit organization in your will, but it can give you and your family peace of mind as well as offer a sense of purpose and dignity.

Consider including Khyentse Foundation in your estate plan. Your gift, however large or small, connects you to Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s aspirations and to Khyentse Foundation even after you are gone. Depending on where you live, there may even be tax benefits.

How to get started

If it’s time for you to write or update your will, we recommend that you seek professional advice to ensure that your wishes are executed in accordance with the laws of your country. KF is fortunate to have benefactors all over the world, and each country has different laws regarding planned giving. We encourage you to find out what would work best for you and your family.

As you think about your legacy, it is a good idea to start by reflecting on who and what are important to you. Your gift can be very impactful for the people and charities you love and support. Completing your will could be as simple as following a few basic steps:

Reflect on your intention: Who will my beneficiaries be? They may be family, friends, or charities. Consider including Khyentse Foundation in your will.

Talk to people in your life: Let your loved ones know what you are doing and share your thoughts with them.

Seek professional advice: Laws and tax codes vary from country to county. A professional can help you write your will so that it both meets your needs and is legally binding.
