“There are not many films that manage to make me have tears in my eyes. There’s very little. Actually, there’s only one film that makes me choke almost every time I watch. Even though I know that scene is coming as I watch, and I already know what’s going to happen. I’m talking about the film Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story.”

Tokyo Story (東京物語, Tōkyō Monogatari) is a 1953 Japanese drama directed by Yasujiro Ozu and starring Chishu Ryu and Setsuko Hara. It’s about an aging couple who travel to Tokyo to visit their grown children. Tokyo Story is widely regarded as Ozu’s masterpiece and one of the greatest films in the history of cinema.
