Translating the Wisdom Words of the First Great Khyentse, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo

Updates on the Khyentse Vision Project

Khyentse Vision Project (KVP), an umbrella project of Khyentse Foundation, is an initiative to translate the collected works of the Rimé master Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. Since the project was launched in July 2020, under the auspices of Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and leadership of Dolma Gunther, KVP has brought together a strong core team of professional translators from around the globe, experienced editors, and an expert tech team. This team has been working closely together to establish the essential project foundation, which includes a clear translation methodology, training for aspiring translators, a refined editorial workflow process, and an immersive reading room.

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo Anniversary Week Celebration

To celebrate the anniversary of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, the team will release their first 21 translations, publishing 3 new translations per day and hosting several special events between March 20 and March 26, 2022. Khyentse Vision Project will also be releasing a few short interviews with the in-house translation and editorial team to give insight into the work behind the scenes.

Project Vision and Progress

Within the next decade, KVP aims to make Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s writings available to an English-speaking readership through its online platform, which will include a reading room, PDF downloads, and e-publications, all free of charge. The long-term aspiration of the project is to become a hub for publishing translations of the writings of all masters of the Khyentse lineage in multiple languages.

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo’s works include almost 50 volumes, most of which have not been translated. The works cover the entire range of topics found in Tibetan Buddhist literature, including treasure teachings, tantric liturgies, histories, and songs. The diversity of subject matter found in these collections demands a correspondingly wide range of expertise and experience from KVP’s translators and editors.
